The British weight loss organization, Slimming World offers diet plans that are used all over Britain by people who wish to lose weight. It was established in 1969 by Margaret Miles-Bramwell and has since developed exclusive weight loss programs such as Food Optimizing or Body Magic.
Consultants, who are self employed organize groups around the UK which through shared experiences encourage change of lifestyle and behavior. A USA branch has recently been established as well.
Slimming World offers food recipe archives, exercise tips and various tools such as the BMI calculator or BMI chart. Support is offered both online and in area group meetings. No dietary supplements are involved in this diet plan to encourage fat burning or appetite suppression.
The concept of Food Optimising is at the core of this organization. Food Optimising relies on satisfying meals that can be enjoyed by the whole family. The low fat diet plan encourages dieters to eat more nutritious foods that are low in calories, such as fish, brown rice, fruits and vegetables. These types of foods are termed Free Foods and they can be eaten in any quantity. Dieters are encouraged to cut down on high calorie foods that provide little nutritious value, such as cookies, fried food, chips or alcohol.
Eating healthy foods in any quantity means that you are not supposed to count calories, however, portion sizes are taken into account. Foods are measured against a daily allowance based on the syn value. Syn values for individual foods are calculated by a proprietary method and the values can be checked on the Slimmers World website.
The Food Optimizing plan has red days and green days. Participants choose either a red or a green option for the day and have to stick to it all day.
